The Reverend Dennis W. Bishop is a native of Winston­ Salem North Carolina. He was born to the late Hazel Bishop and the late Wallace Love on December 29, 1954.

Reverend Bishop graduated from R.J Reynolds High School and attended Piedmont Bible College. Winston­ Salem. He is the father of four children, a grandfather, and “Papa” to many children.

At the age of 13, Reverend Bishop accepted the call to preach and has evangelized throughout the East Coast. He served as Assistant Pastor of Waughtown Baptist Church from 1975 through 1980 under Pastor E. L. Grant. He was called to pastor New Bethel Baptist church in Mocksville, NC in 1980 and served until 1983. In 1983 Reverend Bishop was called to pastor Waughtown Baptist Church after the late Pastor E. L. Grant retired.

Under Pastor Bishop’s leadership, the church has experienced tremendous growth and was led to change its name to First Waughtown Baptist Church. “First Church” has increased in membership as well as many programs. Some programs include Audio and Video tap Ministries, Wednesday night classes for all ages, noonday Bible Study, a scholarship program for high school students, and a honor roll incentive program for students, a Van Ministry, a strong Youth Church, a Women's Ministry and Men’s Ministry.

On the first Sunday in January 1996, the church began its 8:00am services. Reverend Bishop has served on several boards and committees throughout the community. He currently serves on the board at Piedmont International University. In 2003, “First Church” dedicated its 1.9 million dollar multiplex naming the facility the D. W. Bishop Full Life center in honor of its pastor.
